10 Years of Hope: A Child’s Drawing Reflecting the Meaning of Home

Since 2016, the Virginia Women and Family Support Center has provided housing and resources to women and children experiencing homelessness. In the past decade, we have witnessed firsthand the profound impact that stable housing has on maternal health and the difference it can make in a mother and child’s journey toward building a lasting future.

As we look back over the past 10 years, an endless number of stories remind us of the strength, courage and hope of the women and children we serve. Here is one of those stories.

Recently, our Residential Manager, Binja, received a heartfelt drawing from Isabella, the child of one of our residents. Through her creativity, Isabella captured a special place that has become a symbol of safety and stability for her family: the Haymarket House, where she and her family are currently residing.

The drawing included Isabella, Binja, and the home that has provided her family with a sense of comfort and belonging. Alongside the artwork, Isabella shared a simple but powerful message: “You always keep us safe.”

Her words reflect the sense of safety and security she and her family have found through our housing program. Her illustration also serves as a reminder that a permanent address provides more than a place to live; it creates a foundation where children can grow, feel secure, and families can heal.

As we celebrate 10 years of providing housing and support to women and children in need, moments like these remind us why this work matters. Because of your generosity, Isabella has a safe place to call home where she can let her creativity shine.

Thank you for believing in our mission and helping us continue to provide the compassion, stability, and resources families need to thrive.

Help Us Keep Our Doors Open

For 10 years, we have provided safe housing and support to mothers, children, and newborns, helping families build stable and brighter futures. Our goal is to raise $250,000 to continue this life-changing work. Every gift helps keep families safe, supported, and moving toward stability.
