This funding will provide stable housing and access to maternal health education, support and resources for pregnant women and young families.
Northern Virginia – July 26, 2026 – Virginia Women and Family Support Center (VAWFSC) is proud to announce it has received $25,000 from Google.org, Google’s philanthropic arm, to strengthen its mission of providing long-term housing, maternal health coupled with comprehensive wraparound support for families and women who are pregnant and experiencing homelessness.
The funding will provide flexible operating support, allowing VAWFSC to expand critical services for mothers and babies while responding to the growing need for safe housing and maternal health resources throughout Northern Virginia.
Founded in 2016, Virginia Women and Family Support Center provides up to 24 months of stable housing through its Haymarket and Manassas residential homes. Unlike traditional emergency shelters that often provide only 30 to 90 days of support, VAWFSC addresses the root causes of homelessness.
Residents at the VAWFSC receive individualized case management support including prenatal and postpartum care coordination, childbirth education, mental health counseling, parenting classes, financial literacy, educational and workforce development opportunities, childcare support, and much more. Research shows that long-term housing combined with comprehensive
support services significantly improves outcomes for mothers and children, making VAWFSC's model uniquely effective.
The need for these services continues to grow. Women experiencing homelessness during pregnancy face significantly higher risks of pregnancy complications, premature births, and poorer health outcomes for both mother and baby. Many also face barriers to accessing consistent prenatal care, stable housing, and the resources needed to prepare for parenthood.
In 2025 alone, Virginia Women and Family Support Center served more than 1,200 women, children, and families through its housing, maternal health, and community support programs.
“At Google, we believe that being a good neighbor means supporting the local
organizations that are on the ground doing the hard, essential work to support our families,” said Salomé Garcia, Government Affairs & Public Policy Manager, Google. “The Virginia Women and Family Support Center’s unique, long-term approach to housing and postpartum care is making a life-changing difference for families in Northern Virginia. Google is honored to provide this funding, helping them reach more families with the safe housing and resources they deserve.”
Delegate Josh Thomas welcomed the investment and its impact on the community.
"I'm proud to see Google invest in organizations that make a real difference here in Virginia. The Virginia Women and Family Support Center provides critical support to women and families working to overcome homelessness, and this major grant will help expand that important work. I'm grateful to everyone who helped make this opportunity possible, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have for families across our region," said Josh Thomas.
"We are incredibly grateful for this funding," said Frances Robin, Founder and Executive Director of Virginia Women and Family Support Center. "Every day we meet women who simply need the opportunity to feel safe, supported, and hopeful about their future. This support allows us to continue providing the stable housing and comprehensive care that help mothers heal, grow, and build brighter futures for themselves and their children."
As demand for services continues to grow across Prince William County and the surrounding region, the funding will help ensure VAWFSC can continue providing life-changing support to women and families facing homelessness during pregnancy and early motherhood.
"This funding will support healthier pregnancies, stronger families, and a more resilient community," Robin added. "We are thankful to Google.org for recognizing the importance of long-term solutions that empower women to thrive and create lasting change for generations to come."
