Gainesville, VA — August 2, 2025 — The Virginia Women and Family Support Center (VAWFSC) proudly welcomed Chair Deshundra Jefferson of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors to its campus this week. Her visit underscored a shared commitment to advancing health equity through the maternal health program, housing stability, and opportunity for students, women, and families throughout the region.

Chair Jefferson received a guided tour of the Center, where she engaged directly with program staff and interns participating in VAWFSC’s newly launched internship program in partnership with Prince William County Public Schools. The internship provides local high school students with hands-on experience in community service, nonprofit operations, and health equity work.

During her visit, Chair Jefferson gained a deeper understanding of VAWFSC’s holistic programs which include trauma-informed maternal health care, financial management, workforce development, education, and continuing education support.

A highlight of the tour was a briefing on the Center’s soon-to-launch Carried To Full Term Maternal Health Program—the first of its kind within a 20-mile radius to offer free, culturally responsive maternal care and education to the public. The program is set to open this fall, expanding VAWFSC’s reach and further addressing maternal health inequities in the county.

“We were honored to host Chair Jefferson and share the heart of our work,” said Frances Robin, Founder and Executive Director. “Her presence reaffirms the importance of local government leaders standing with community organizations working every day to create lasting change for women and families.”

This visit underscores the vital partnership between county leadership and public education as we work together to address the urgent housing and maternal health needs facing families in Prince William County. Through collaboration, we can build stronger, healthier communities for all.
